This rack is the ultimate way to carry a heavy load on the front of your bicycle. It is bolted onto your frame via a reinforcing beam between the top tube and down tube and a piece of angle steel across the head tube. Needless to say, this permanently changes your frame and necessitates disassembly and re-painting of your bicycle. This type of rack is much stronger, and much more stable with heavy loads than a traditional fork- and handlebar-mounted rack. However, it should also be noted that the handlebars must clear the top of whatever is in the rack, since they turn independently. $200. Disassembly, reassembly, and painting are extra.
To increase the rack-handlebar clearance, I can do a full Cycle Truck-style conversion. This involves welding on a new head tube, modifying a 20" fork, and switching to a 20" front wheel. The payoff is an even stabler load, and much more space for your cargo. $400 plus materials. Disassembly, reassembly, and painting are extra.
Custom racks also available.
