Custom Trailers from Haulin' Colin

The Original

Crudely built without jigs in my learning stages of welding and stored outside since, it has nevertheless survived years of heavy use. A series of less-than-ideal hitches finally led to a hitch similar to the one used on my current model, but welded directly to the bicycle frame. Most of the exploits on the site feature this trailer since I've been using it for so long. The design and size are very similar to my new 5' x 2' production model.

002

Built as a project to find out if I could make a high quality marketable trailer and pay myself a good wage doing it. High quality--yes, good wage--no, due to inefficiencies in my methods and the tools I used. This prototype trailer features welded wheel protector struts with riveted plastic fenders, a built-in hitch arm, a 1.5' by 3' cargo area, and automotive grade spray paint. It is for sale: $500.

003

This trailer was commissioned by David Shapiro. His blog has an entry about it. It is the same style as 002, but larger and includes a custom-machined name plate. Here are a couple of pictures from just before the fenders were installed

005

A fancy trailer for my friend Joseph. He specified full fenders and a lowered deck. This required quite a bit of extra work, but the finished product is beautiful.

006

The standard 5' x 2' trailer with a welded railing and bolt-on hitch arm.
